Aurora Virtual School has grown in a short time to where we are able to offer enough courses to meet the requirements for high school graduation with a Dogwood Diploma.  We are constantly updating the number and type of courses available through AVS.  We currently provide courses from Grade 6 – 12 and are poised to add K – 6 programs as our capacity grows.  AVS is a Yukon public school and is staffed by highly qualified and certified teachers.  Our staff are specialists in online learning environments and enthusiastic in looking for ways to improve the virtual learning experiences of our students.  Our Yukon-based virtual courses are available to all Yukon students.  These courses are created and vetted by Yukon teachers and meet all the requirements set out in the K – 12 list of Ministry approved courses.  Our courses provide choice and flexibility for students while offering them locally relevant topics to meet the needs of their schools and communities.  AVS students may be taking 100% of their courses with us or, may be cross-enrolled for one or two courses while attending one of Yukon’s local schools.  Students access our courses from anywhere where they have their computer, headphones, and a reliable internet connection. We use a combination of virtual class time, where students and teacher meet regularly throughout the week, and independent work time, where the student can access course materials 24/7.  Our blend of virtual face-to-face time with independent online work is unique across Canada in its application.

What you will need to be an online student with AVS:
  • a computer
  • a printer and scanner
  • usb headphones with a microphone
  • reliable internet access
