Homeschooling in Yukon
or Homeschooling is an alternative method of teaching where a parent delivers an educational program to children at home.
The Yukon Education Act (Section 31) provides parents with the statutory right to educate their children at home.
Homeschooling allows children to work at their own pace and parents to blend family, life and schoolwork into their own schedule.

Roles and Responsibilities
In Yukon, parents must register homeschooled children with Aurora Virtual School (AVS) by September 30th each year. Parents are also required to submit a Home Education Plan for each child being home schooled.
AVS will register the child of any parent who wishes his or her child to be educated at home. AVS has no authority to approve or supervise the educational program of a homeschooled child. As outlined below, AVS can provide advice and support in a number of areas as requested by families.

Additional Supports
At the request of families, AVS staff are happy to provide further support including:
- advice for setting up a home education program
- advice for creating educational plans
- arranging for achievement testing and provincial exams (EYE, BOEYM, Grade Level Literacy and Numeracy Assessments, and Foundational Skills Assessments in Grade 4 and 7.
- choosing educational resources
- creating reports
- scheduling with local public schools to take certain courses in your local school or online with AVS
- borrowing textbooks and equipment from the Department of Education’s Resource Services unit
- providing access to the ERAC Digital Classroom.
- optional experiential learning opportunities.

Register for Home Education French First Language
The Yukon Francophone School Board / Commissions scolaire francophone du Yukon (CSFY) manages a homeschooling program in French called École Nomade. You have to register with the program École Nomade.
