Home Education at Aurora

Home education, sometimes referred to as home schooling or home-based learning, is an option available to all Yukon students. It is a way for students to learn in their home and community with an approach that is adaptable and personalized.

Parents assume responsibility for their child's learning by selecting educational programs, methods and resources.

Yukon Education now coordinates home education through the Aurora Virtual School.

Time-line for Home Education Planning

1. All home educators must register annually.
You must complete BOTH the registration form and the home education plan forms.

2. Registration forms and the Home Education forms should be submitted prior to May 15th of the current school year for the following school year. Home Education Plans must be submitted separately for each subject. No Home Education Plans will be processed during the summer break.

3. Any remaining Home Education Plans must be submitted to AVS prior to September 15th of the current school year. Note processing closure dates in point 1.

4. A decision to request a DL program as the Home Education Plan must be made/processed/approved prior to September 15th.

5. If a parent of a Grade 1 to 7 student is approved for a DL program for their child, that program remains in effect for the entire school year to completion in June. DL programs cannot be terminated in mid-year due to the cost associated with these programs. It is not possible to make a change after registration.

Please Note: If you are registering your child for the first time in Kindergarten you will have to show the birth certificate as proof of age by coming into the office and showing it to a staff member. Email or faxing of birth certificates is not accepted as per ATTIP.

Resource reimbursement forms can be found below and  must include original receipts.
